Season Wrap Up

I just completed my fall golf season at The Master's College. The team had a great fall and we are now ranked 5th in the country in the NAIA! It has definitely been fun and exciting. I have been very busy with classes and practice so I apologize for not posting as often as I would like to. My game is starting to come around and I have been playing well. I hit a slump during the middle of the season but am thankful to be on my way out of it. I am excited for the spring season. Coach Semelsberger and Coach Board have really been an inspiration to me and I have learned a lot from both of them. I am looking forward to Christmas break and working hard on my game this off season.

John Wins State!!!!

Congratulations to my little brother John. He recently won the Washington State Junior Golf State Championship in the 8-11 year old division! I was able to spend the week with him and watch his great performance. He shot a final round 76 to win by four shots. He putted great and combined some solid iron play with some amazing up and down shots. At the beginning of the week he took home the long drive champion title by hitting a booming 243 yard drive! It was a great week and it was a lot of fun to see his name added to a list of other junior state champions that includes Fred Couples and Ryan Moore. Great job John! I can't wait to see what you do next.

Home

I am finally home after almost 5 weeks on the road in 3 different states. I have been playing a lot of golf and working hard on my game. I am excited about some of the changes I have made and am looking forward to the start of my first year at The Master's College. For the next week or so I will be getting ready for college life, practicing golf, and spending time with my family before I head off to school. I am excited about this next stage of my life. Thank you to everyone who has been following me on my blog and those who have given me so much support and encouragement. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to my first college event on September 27th in Sierra La Verne, California.

New Mexico

I just arrived back in Arizona after playing a pro-am for four days in New Mexico. I had a great time there with my coach Drew Reid. I did not place as well as I would have liked but I am seeing some great improvements in my game. I am excited as I start to see the changes I have made in my game fall in to place. My ball striking is coming around and I am making quite a few birdies. It was a great trip and I will take a lot from it as I prepare to compete this fall for The Master's College.

College

I signed a letter of intent to attend and play golf for The Master's College in Santa Clarita California. I just received my acceptance letter in the mail. So I am now officially a Master's Mustang! I am very excited about the school. The environment is great along with the location and weather. The team is very solid and we have a great travel schedule. I feel very fortunate to be able to attend Masters. The practice facility's and the courses we play are top notch. I am looking forward to improving my golf game and growing as a person while attending Masters.

The Washington State Amateur

I finished up the Washington State Amateur on June 23. Unfortunately I missed the cut. I struggled with my ball striking the first day and hit it just about everywhere. It was one of my worst rounds of the year. The course was very difficult with a 74.9 course rating and a 144 slope. Hard, sloped, and elevated greens along with tight tree lined fairways are the norm on this course. Even though I had almost no chance to make the cut unless I shot under par I still went to the range and practiced hard after my round to try to find my swing again. The second day I started off with a birdie at number 1 and 3 and played a very good round of golf. I finished the day with a one over 73 after rolling in a birdie from six feet on the 435 yard 18th hole. I had a great putting round and used only 27 putts for the day with only 12 putts on the back nine. I am disappointed to miss the cut but it served as a great learning experience and taught me that even when it seems like there is no chance I can always make the best of a situation by trying my hardest.

First Win of 2010

I just won my second straight Grays Harbor Men's Amateur Championship. I shot back to back rounds of 72 for a two shot victory. I am starting to see some on course results from the recent changes I have made. I struggled with my putter in both rounds but made some clutch putts coming down the stretch, including an downhill 12 footer for par on the final hole. The highlight of the weekend come on the par three13th. I hit my tee shot to five and a half inches. Overall it was a fun tournament and it was nice to see the improvements I have made in practice carry over to the course. My next tournament is the Washington State Amateur Championship June 22-24th.

State

On Wednesday I completed my final HS state golf tournament. I played a solid first round and shot a 73 and was five shots back starting the second day. Unfortunately I really struggled on the second day and had some bad breaks and ended up placing 28th. I am disappointed to end my HS career that way but I realize that everyone has bad rounds. I am striking the ball well and my short game has improved. I still need some extra work on my putting but overall my game is as good as it has ever been. I am looking forward to my next tournament on June 19-20. It is the Grays Harbor Men's Amateur. I am the defending champion and would love for that to be my breakthrough tournament for the year. I am looking forward to competing again and am excited to see how I play as things start to fall together.

Local Qualifier

I finished the US Open local qualifier yesterday. Unfortunately I did not advance to sectionals. I have been playing well lately and hitting some great shots but I struggled a little on the greens and with my approach shots yesterday. The greens were very fast and difficult and the rough was very thick. The course was so much fun to play but definitely different than what I am use to playing. All of the pins were in tough spots. On hole 18 I watched a player hit a 15 foot putt past the hole, off the green, and 10 yards into the fairway! I had a good time at the event and am looking forward to my next one. I have an 18 hole tournament on Saturday and then have my state championship May 25-26.

Practice Season

The practice season is winding down and the tournaments are almost here. I have been working with my coach Drew Reid for the last couple of weeks and we have been making some great progress. I am starting to get more in control of my ball flight and am fine tuning my shot shaping abilities. We have worked on a variety of new short game shots that will enhance my shot options around the greens. However, I am the most excited about my putting. I have made some big changes and am rolling the ball great. I am looking forward to the upcoming tournaments and seeing how well I compete. I recently found quote I thought was quite good.

Update

Hi Everyone,

Here is an update on what I have been doing. I am sorry it has been a while since my last post.
I have been going to a local community college this year. I had a very busy schedule last quarter, during which I took business calculus, environmental science, technical writing, and fit lab. I decided to take a break from golf for a while during my ‘’offseason’’. It was definitely the right choice. I feel much more refreshed and able focused on playing ‘’quality’’ golf. All of my studying paid off as well. I earned a 4.0 GPA last quarter in some difficult classes. I have been practicing golf a lot lately and have been making some great improvements. I am really excited about how my game is coming together for this upcoming year. My next big event will be the US Open local qualifier at Overlake Country Club, which is near Seattle, on May 10th. I am excited and looking forward to the rest of this year.
